Mysterious drone sightings baffle observers, fuel conspiracy theories

Experts have no answers to questions about unidentified craft seen over several states, but they say you should avoid shooting them down.

Sightings of unknown aircraft in the skies above New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland have some people unnerved, while others offer conspiracy theories about who could be responsible.

The craft, which many say look to them like swarms of drones, started appearing about a month ago, sometimes near military bases and other sensitive locations.

But are they drones or something else? Do they come from foreign actors or from our own government? No one seems to have answers. But federal and state leaders in the affected areas have promised investigations, and offered warnings against citizens taking action on their own.

Tech expert Omar Gallaga has written about the mystery for CNET and joined the show to discuss.

Highlights from this segment:

– The aircraft appear to be some six feet long, far larger than hobbyist drones.

– Despite a suggestion from President-elect Trump that the government shoot the drones down, officials have warned individuals that doing so could be dangerous, as the devices could become fiery projectiles.
