We’re learning more about wide-ranging intrusions into government and private sector computer systems that are linked to software from Austin-based SolarWinds. In December, news broke that systems at the Defense, Commerce and Treasury Departments, and others, had been breached and that U.S. officials believe Russian government actors are responsible.
This week, the acting cybersecurity chief for the Department of Homeland Security said the hacks went further than previously believed, targeting unclassified systems, including email.
Tech expert Omar Gallaga told Texas Standard that officials continue to learn more about the hack and find more vulnerabilities in U.S. systems.
“What we’re hearing now is that there was a whole other set of bad players, including China, that were involved in a widespread campaign that goes way beyond this SolarWinds hack,” Gallaga said.
