Three large COVID-19 vaccination centers are set to open in Texas later this month – two of them operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be located in North Texas, and another will be in Houston.
Texas Department of State Health Services Associate Commissioner Imelda Garcia told KERA News that the vaccine doses given out at the new sites will be in addition to the state’s regular allotment.
“They expect to vaccinate up to 6,000 people a day at the Houston site and 3,000 each day at the Arlington and Dallas sites,” she said.
Texas is also working to vaccinate more residents in rural areas. This week, the state will deploy mobile COVID-19 vaccination teams to five underserved counties.
Health officials say so far, more than 3.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across Texas.
