Hurricane Harvey scattered families across Texas, and our series, “One Crisis Away: After The Flood,” is chronicling how they’re starting over. Today, we check in with one family flooded out by the storm, and how they made the tough decision to leave their neighborhood for good.

The Guite family lives in an apartment in northwest Houston right now.

Don’t let the Southern hospitality fool you. They’re California transplants. John and Jocelyn Guite, their two kids and their dog moved to Houston’s Meyerland neighborhood about six years ago.
