At 16 years-old, Chloe Latham Sikes was told she would never conceive. When she got the news, her younger sister made her a generous offer. She told Latham Sikes that one day she would share her eggs.
“And at the time I was like, ‘Oh, let’s shelve that offer. It’s just not necessary right now,’” Latham Sikes said.
Fast forward 14 years to 2019.
“And I thought, ‘Well, maybe this egg donor offer, it’s worth coming back to her,’” Latham Sikes said. “And she said, ‘Yeah, offer [is] still good. I’m all here for it.’”
Now, Latham Sikes and her husband had some eggs. But, who would carry their baby? Enter their good friend Pye Brown.
“Well, it was my husband’s idea, actually,” Brown said. “And I said, ‘Yeah, I was really good at being pregnant the first time around. Sure, why not?’ I may have forgotten a few [difficult] parts [of being pregnant] and it was a little rough the second time around. So, I may have been a little cocky thinking that I would just like smooth sail through a pregnancy! But I loved it! It was awesome!”

On Earth Day, Brown delivered a healthy baby boy for her friends. This act
moved Chloe Latham Sikes to tears.
“It’s such a gift,” Latham Sikes said. “And being able to say, ‘I will accept it from you. Yes and Thank you’. It was really hard and continues to sometimes be hard because it’s just very vulnerable. But I’ve gained so much. And, you know? [I] hope I can pay whatever I can forward because I’ve benefited so much, and I’ve learned so much from being vulnerable in that way.”
Pye Brown is now baby’s godmother. The entire family is doing well.
