Dennis Wayne Jeter has been a funeral director for nearly 50 years. Originally from Akron, Ohio, Jeter moved down to Dallas in order to marry his wife and then joined her family’s funeral business in 1966.

“I went for a general thorough physical, and found out there was a spot on the lower right lobe of my lung,” Jeter says.

He was diagnosed with melanoma, and then a second spot appeared on his left lung. He began radiation treatment shortly after.

“I decided to fight cancer with denial, and the very strong faith that this was not going to happen to me,” Jeter says.
