Last week, 11 Democratic candidates debated in hopes of becoming the nominee to challenge Republican incumbent John Cornyn for his Senate seat in November. It was the first debate among the candidates, and PolitiFact Texas evaluated claims made by several of them.

Madlin Mekelburg of PolitiFact Texas says four claims, in particular, stood out to her.

– Royce West made a claim about the number and cost of incarcerated people in the federal prison system

– Jack Daniel Foster Jr. said that Texas is more rural than urban

– Chris Bell justified his failed political campaigns by arguing that he is “in good company”

– Cristina Tzinztún Ramirez justified higher taxes for the rich by claiming that President Lyndon B. Johnson supported a similar policy

See how the candidates’ claims scored in the player above.
