How To Cook A Perfect Steak Every Time With…Your Face?

Okay, let’s say you’re on a desert island and you’re grilling a steak (where did the steak come from, and what are you grilling it on? Not important). So you’re all excited about this steak and then you realize you have one big question…

How will you know when your steak is perfectly done?

Well you’re in luck because you have the only tool you need with you all the time: your face. Kristen Miglore, executive editor for Food52, stopped by the Texas Standard to explain how easy it is.

All you need to do is compare the way the steak feels on the outside to various spots on your face, depending on how you want it cooked. There’s a great infographic you can use as a visual guide, but generally:

Medium rare: should feel soft, like your cheek.

Medium: should have a little more resistance, like your chin.

Medium well: should feel like your forehead.

It’s as easy as that. Happy grilling!
