Right now, high in Trump Tower in New York City, Donald Trump and his advisors are trying to decide who to pick for the president-elect’s cabinet. And if many of the news reports are to be believed, the names of a few prominent Texans are on their lips, including U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, Reps. Mike McCaul and Jeb Hensarling, and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.
If Trump appoints an office-holding Texan to his cabinet, Texas has provisions in place to ensure the positions don’t go unfilled.
Jim Riddlesperger, professor of political science at Texas Christian University, says the Gov. appoints a temporary replacement for most positions. After that, there are special elections, or a wait until the next general election to fill the spot.
