A Texas lawmaker says that since 2011, six court rulings have found intentional discrimination by the Texas Legislature. Is that a fact? Gardner Selby of the Politifact Texas fact-checking team has the answer.
In April, Rep. Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) tweeted, “How many federal rulings have now found intentional discrimination by the Texas Legislature? Six.”
Anchia cites federal court rulings related to the state’s voter ID law and the drawing of Texas House districts in 2011, which were believed to have been designed to dilute the voting strength of minorities.
Bobby Cervantes, an Austin Bureau reporter for the Houston Chronicle, checked out Anchia’s claims for Politifact Texas.
