Hackers stole and published prerelease video from the upcoming GTA VI, and may have taken source code, too.

Over the weekend, someone leaked 98 video clips from Grand Theft Auto VI – or GTA – a major upcoming release in the Rockstar Games franchise. It’s one of the biggest game leaks ever. The hacker claimed to have source code used to create the game, and threatened to leak it if a ransom wasn’t paid.

Leaks have also hit two other upcoming games – Diablo IV and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Tech expert Omar Gallaga says leaking early game elements causes problems for developers, not only financially, but in terms of their unfinished games’ reputation.

Highlights from this segment:

– The GTA leak consisted of videos showing early versions of gameplay. The hacker has asked for a “five figure” ransom, but there’s no guarantee that paying the ransom would prevent release of stolen material.

– It isn’t known whether the Diablo IV and Assassin’s Creed Mirage leaks are related.

– Stock in GTA developer, Take-Two, fell on news of the leak.
