If you use AI features in Microsoft apps Notepad and Paint, you’re about to face a choice: Do without AI, or pony up for a Microsoft 365 subscription

Tech expert Omar Gallaga says tech companies like Microsoft have poured a lot of money into AI, and are looking for ways to make some of it back.

Highlights from this segment:

– Notepad and Paint remain free, with AI features grayed out unless you’re subscribed to Microsoft 365.

– The company hasn’t yet announced fees for AI features in other apps, but it’s certainly a possibility in the future.

– Microsoft, Google and Apple, among other tech companies, have poured billions into AI development. It’s likely that all will feel the pressure to make some of it back by charging for AI in their products.
