National and state Democratic leaders want to flip congressional seats in 2020 – that’s well known. But they’re also looking at several statehouse races in which Democrats might have a chance of winning. As a result, some Texas Democrats are seeing more money than usual coming their way.
Paul Weber reports on Texas politics for the Associated Press, and says Democratic donors didn’t see much point in giving to Texas Democratic candidates before, especially ones running for statewide office. But that’s changing, he says.
“That’s really a new wrinkle because so many of those contests were considered afterthoughts to donors because those races just weren’t competitive,” Weber says. “But the stakes are higher now.”
