Time for the week that was in Texas politics with Emily Ramshaw, editor-in-chief of the Texas Tribune.
All but three of the 38-memberTexas Congressional delegation has confirmed to the Texas Tribune that they will seek reelection in 2018. Sam Johnson (R-Richardson) has announced his retirement, Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) is planning a Senate run, and Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Houston) wouldn’t dislose her plans, though Ramshaw says she is likely to run again.
Some Texas prison inmates have experienced a “game of musical chairs,” Ramshow says. A judge ordered the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to move some medically-fragile inmates to prison facilities that provide cooler conditions. But Hurricane Harvey displaced those and other prisoners, resulting in a second move. Almost 4,000 prisoners are affected, Ramshaw says.
Ramshaw, who joined Host David Brown during Texas Standard’s live broadcast from the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, says those interested in what’s happening at the annual gathering of political pros and fans, can watch some sessions via live stream.
