“Teach your kids that there is a relationship between working and money and then giving to help somebody else feel that kind of holiday spirit in their own life.”

Gregg Murset is the founder and CEO of busykid.com, a company that helps parents and children manage household chores and allowance.

“Around the holiday season I think we need to figure out what do we want to do to help our kids develop and grow into the successful people that we hope them to be,” Murset says.

Murset thinks the best gift is teaching kids how to work, be responsible and make good decisions with their money. His evidence is that three of his six kids left the house with thousands of dollars in their bank accounts. He says that’s because he “laid down the law” and told his kids to go work for their money. So they babysat or worked at a docto’rs office or did roofing.

“I think you can really wrap this up with – teach your kids that there is a relationship between working and money and then giving to help somebody else feel that kind of holiday spirit in their own life,” Murset says.
