Do US Criminal Justice System Standards Date Back To The 1960s?

U.S. senator from Texas, John Cornyn, said recently that the United States has not completed a “top-to-bottom review of our criminal justice system at the national level since 1965.”

Is that a fact?

Madlin Mekelburg and the fact checkers at PolitiFact Texas looked into Cornyn’s claim, which came from a June 11 call with Texas reporters.

“He was talking about legislation that Republicans in the Senate have put forward to reform policing,” Mekelburg told Texas Standard host David Brown. “And part of that is expanding President Trump’s newly created commission on law enforcement – expanding their scope and responsibilities. He was talking about this bill and this need for a commission like this.”
