Arts and culture are helping people cope with the drastic changes to daily life during the coronavirus pandemic. While many concerts, shows and festivals scheduled for this spring were canceled or rescheduled, artists are giving fans a chance to experience their music live, online.

Deidre Gottlive music producer for KUTX in Austin highlights some live music streaming events worth watching.

Willie Nelson hosts “At Home With Farm Aid”
When: Saturday, April 11, 7 p.m. CST
Where: Farmaid.org, Facebook, YouTube
Who: Willie Nelson and his sons, Lukas and Micha, along with Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews – all joining in from their respective homes.
What: This live event will benefit family farms affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Global Citizen presents “One World: Together at Home”
When: Saturday, April 18, 7 p.m. CST
Where: Globalcitizen.org
Who: Two Texas powerhouses, Kacey Musgraves and Lizzo, plus Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and many more.
What: The global broadcast and digital special will benefit health care workers and the World Health Organization.

For those missing the spring music festival atmosphere, Gott has a tip for putting together an at-home festival experience: Set up two livestreams, each in a separate room. When one song finishes or there’s a break, hop over to the other stream. It’ll definitely be quicker than running from stage to stage like at a real festival. She also says having an adult beverage on hand can make the experience feel even more like the real thing.

And though the at-home version likely won’t match what it feels like to experience music in person, Gott says it’s important to realize one thing: “This isn’t permanent; we will get back to the live music in person, eventually.”
