The message board and community platform Reddit has been growing steadily in recent years. But there’s pressure from investors to bring more money in since the company went public in 2024.

In a recent earnings call, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said paid access to communities – called subreddits – is on the way. Tech expert Omar Gallaga says AI is seen as both a challenge and an opportunity at Reddit.

Highlights from this segment:

– Huffman said paid subreddits are coming to the platform. There’s already a premium service available, where users can access a single premium channel and avoid ads.

– Reddit has considered licensing deals selling access to other companies, including those with AI models that need data on which to train.

– Reddit Answers is an AI-based service for users that relies on the platform’s content to answer questions posed by users.
