San Antonio Researcher Gets $2 Million To Fight Valley Fever

The fungus that causes Valley Fever lives in the dirt of the southwest. When wind is high, spores from the fungus travel by air, and can infect people.

A San Antonio researcher has gotten a nearly $2 million grant to come up with a vaccine against the fungus that causes valley fever.

Valley Fever is usually a respiratory ailment, and can also cause flu-like symptoms, said Texas Department of State Health Services spokesman Chris Van Deusen.
