SCOTUS Victory for Abortion Rights Advocates in Texas

Evidence once again that Texas really is the center of the universe when the Supreme Court abortion ruling cast all eyes on the state. Texas Tribune reporter Alexa Ura helps us unwind the week that was in Texas politics.

On Monday, the Supreme Court struck down of Texas’ HB 2, – a victory for abortion providers and their supporters and a loss for Republicans who “touted this as some of the best restrictions in the country.” All told, the state spent about $1 million fighting these abortion restriction cases in the courts.

“House Bill 2 leaves a long legacy of shuttered clinics,” she says. “We had more than 40 clinics open before this law was passed and we’re down to 19 today. It’s very unlikely that any of them will open in short order.”
