Tesla is having a rough 2025 so far.
Sales of its industry-leading EVs are down in many areas of the world, the stock price has been plummeting in recent weeks and activists who don’t like CEO Elon Musk are staging protests at Tesla dealerships around the country.
Tech expert Omar Gallaga wrote for CNET that the future is far from certain for Tesla, as bad news on one front could eventually give way to popularity with a whole new fanbase.
Highlights from this segment:
– Though Tesla remains the leading maker of EVs, its sales have fallen, especially in Europe, where EVs overall have a higher market share than they do in the U.S.
– The market for used Teslas is a difficult one for sellers, who have seen buyers less willing to buy the EVs, or require more of a discount to do so. The change is partially motivated by disgruntlement over Musk’s politics, and by “meme culture” which supports a rejection of Tesla products.
– Some conservatives, who might once have scoffed at electric vehicles, are more interested in Tesla, given its connection to Elon Musk and his government-slashing role in the Trump administration.
