It’s time to talk about the week that was in Texas politics. Texas Tribune reporter Jim Malewitz spoke with the Standard Friday to talk about what’s been going on across the state.

It could be a different new year for at least one Texan – candidates for Donald Trump’s secretary of agriculture head to Florida this week to meet with his leadership team.

“Sid Miller, the current Texas secretary of agriculture and Susan Combs, formerly served as agriculture secretary and comptroller, are both meeting with Donald Trump’s team today,” Malewitz says. “We don’t know exactly how those interviews will go, but we know that they’re in route. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out. If one of them gets the job that will be fun for us reporters to track that down. Combs and Miller are really different personalities.”

Elsa Murano, former president of Texas A&M University, also met with Trump’s team on Wednesday.
