Chris Brooks, who’s from Houston, competes in men’s gymnastics: “pommel horse, parallel bars, still rings, vault, and high bar,” he says.

He started learning gymnastics at home. “My father did high school gymnastics,” Brooks says, “so he started teaching my brother, sister and I the basics at home… we kind of fell in love with it as a family.” Brooks’ father passed away in 2008.

Brooks says he spends a lot of hours at the gym. Heading to Rio, he says he feels ready. “I’m just excited to go out there,” he says, “and represent myself and my country, every single person that has lifted a finger to help me along the way.”
