Donuts (inspired by William Carlos Williams’s “The Red Wheelbarrow”)

So much depends
upon
a succulent,
delicious,
red-glazed donut
because it is sweet and epic
or because it may be your very last
piece of food
until starvation.
You hope
for more excellent
donuts,
then as you start to starve—
one,
then two,
then hundreds of magical
donuts of all
colors begin to rain
from the sky.
The miracle of a tornado
that picked up a donut factory
and sprayed it
where you are right now—
Austin!
