From KUT Austin, Texas Public Radio in San Antonio and KERA in Dallas, three news editors give us their news forecast for the week.

Shelley Kofler, News Director for Texas Public Radio in San Antonio:

“One of the stories we’re pursuing this week is a closer look at the race for U.S House District 23. It’s one of the most closely watched congressional races in the country. That’s where Alpine democrat Pete Gallego is hoping to retake the seat that he lost two years ago to San Antonio Republican Will Hurd. … Later in the week we’re going to be looking at the implementation of a mandate by the Centers for Disease Control that all blood banks test blood donations for the presences of the Zika virus.”

Rick Holter, Vice President of News at KERA in Dallas:

“We’re looking at the phenomenon of the Latino school superintendent across Texas. It’s part of a statewide collaborative project but we were kind of noodling on a project to do and then we noticed with Houston’s hiring of Richard A. Carranza as their new superintendent. The biggest eight cities in Texas all have a Latino school superintendent now.”

Ben Philpott, Senior News Editor at KUT in Austin:

“We’re continuing to slug along with the city elections coming up. We’ve got two candidate forums this week, where people are going to be able to come and just ask their questions of the candidates. We’re not asking the questions. We’re just making sure no fights break out.”
