This 1970s UT Student Saved Austin’s Paramount Theater

This 100-year-old theater in Austin nearly bit the dust, save for three guys with a restoration plan.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the landmark Paramount Theater in Austin. But it almost didn’t make it this far. The theater faced a near-certain death back in the ’70s, when it was in danger of being demolished to make room for a hotel. But three men — John Bernardoni, Charles Eckerman and Stephen Scott stepped in with plans to restore the theater back to its former glory. Bernardoni speaks with the Standard about saving the historic art space.
