This Texan Says Life in Mountain Time Has Kept Him in El Paso

“I’m just glad that I live in Texas with an altitude.”

Don Baumgardt has lived in El Paso for the past 28 years. For most of that time, he was the publisher of the El Paso Visitors Guide.

He now operates his own adventure tourism business and takes visitors hiking and mountain biking in Franklin Mountains State Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The mountains are what have kept him in the city for so many years.

“I try to get them as high as they want to go to see all the great sites that are out there because it’s really cool out there,” Baumgardt says. “There’s plants and animals that people just don’t get to see from most other parts of the country.”
