President Trump announced finalization of a plan to bring American TikTok users’ data to the U.S. has been struck, making it possible for the platform to avoid a ban that was passed by Congress.

Under the deal, American companies would run TikTok, and Americans’ data would be stored on U.S.-based servers. But details of the arrangement remain sparse, and it’s unclear when the deal would go into effect.

Tech expert Omar Gallaga wrote about the plan for CNET and joined the Standard with more.

Highlights from this segment include:

– The president says Oracle will lead the TikTok management group, with a number of other partners. But the exact structure of the organization remains unclear.

– Trump says TikTok users won’t need to download a new app to use the U.S.-only version. But security experts say making that work would be a very difficult challenge for Oracle.

– As of now, the TikTok ban is scheduled to take effect in December, after several extensions from the Trump administration have delayed its implementation since the beginning of the year.
