New book collects stories, photos from NASA’s Space Shuttle era

Atlantis. Discovery. Enterprise. Endeavor. Challenger. Columbia.

For three decades, NASA was in the Space Shuttle age, with 135 missions. Most were filled with historic firsts. There were also tragedies.

Astronaut and spacewalker Tom Jones has collected stories from each mission in a big, photo-filled book titled “Space Shuttle Stories.”

Searching for the history of the Texas Farm Workers Union

The names César Chávez and the United Farm Workers loom large when talking about the struggle of farmworkers and Latino civil rights. But you may not have heard of another group that split off from Chavez and the UFW – one that did a lot of work to draw attention to the plight of farmworkers in Texas.

In October, the Texas Standard’s Raul Alonzo reported a three-part series on a little known chapter this history: the story of the Texas Farm Workers Union.
