Charley Pride Obituary
Country singer Charley Pride – who recorded dozens of number one hits – died over the weekend in Dallas of complications from COVID-19. He was 86. As KERA’s Alejandra Martinez reports, he spent much of his career based in Texas.
The Cartel Project
In the past 20 years, 119 journalists have been killed in Mexico, making that country the most dangerous in the world for reporters. A new project put together by 60 journalists from 25 international media outlets details their deaths and the work that got them killed. It’s called “The Cartel Project” and the collaboration was coordinated by the Paris-based group called Forbidden Stories. Laurent Richard, the founder of that network, joins the Standard.
Matthew McConaughey’s book, “Greenlights”
Matthew McConaughey is an Oscar-winning actor. He’s worked hard to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood – but at the same time, he’s all Texas. He grew up in Uvalde and Longview and is a UT graduate. McConaughey joins the Standard to talk about his first book, called “Greenlights.”
Lubbock and Rural Hospitals
Lubbock area hospitals have been running out of beds since the end of November as COVID-19 cases climb. It’s had a ripple effect beyond that city. From Texas Tech public Media, Kaysie Ellingson talked with medical staff in Lubbock and a rural hospital that’s been hit hard.
