Twitter Says No More Paid Political Ads

The company’s approach to political speech is the opposite of Facebook’s model.

Twitter will no longer accept paid political ads. CEO Jack Dorsey made the announcement Wednesday, via Twitter thread. The news came as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerburg was announcing his company’s soaring earnings, and doubling down on his company’s decision not to fact-check political ads. 

Tech expert Omar Gallaga says Twitter’s announcement comes as the company continues to be criticized for the excesses of people who use its platform.

“I think the leaders of Twitter have taken a lot of flak over the past few years over what a toxic environment it’s become,” Gallaga says
