It’s that time again – time to pull out the yule log, unwrap a candy cane, spin the dreidel and pour yourself a cup of nog. The creamy holiday treat is what inspired Typewriter Rodeo’s David Fruchter to write this week’s poem.
A Rhapsody in NOG
you might call me… a nog-head
though “noggin” is preferred
by some aficionados
of the creamy and absurd
that thick, sweet, eggy nectar
fills crystalline punch bowls
pour us cups or ladle it
right in our greedy holes
bourbon, rum, or scotch whisky
unless you like it virgin
just get a glass and drink it down
that’s all that i am urgin’
it only comes but once a year
(though it’s coming lasts six weeks)
so let’s all have a tipple of
eggnog to wet our beaks
