Typewriter Rodeo: Avocados

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

We know it costs extra, but we just couldn’t resist! This week’s Typewriter Rodeo poem is an ode to the avocado.

Avocados

Oh you luscious

Lump of green

Are you veggie? or nut?

Or something in between?

The way you softly smush

Into guacamole dip

So good I don’t even

Need a chip

I could eat you plain

I don’t mean to boast

Or drop you in salad

Or spread you on toast

In tortilla soup

You’re the perfect topping

Oh no, avocado,

We’re not stopping

A heavenly consistency

A delectable color

When it comes to food goodness

There is no other

Yes you, avocado,

Sliced smushed or whole

I love every bit

Of your smooth, green, soul.
