Typewriter Rodeo: Butter

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Let’s face it: cold butter is just unnatural. I mean, what do you do with it? It just sits there, doesn’t melt. But warm butter…warm butter is the secret to maximum deliciousness. That was the inspiration for this week’s Typewriter Rodeo.

Butter

I am ready to be

slathered

on your thickest

Texas

toast

Ready to make all your

nooks and crannies

savory

I am

oh

oh dear

I am still in the fridge

Oh

This is not going to go well

I am going to almost certainly

rip the crumb of your tender loaf

It’s going to be a

cold

buttery

mess

Please

take me out of the fridge!

Let me soften on the counter!

I am at my finest when I’m warm and melty

or even just

gently softened

But please

do us all a favor

and let me achieve my ultimate

spreadability

I am your butter

Warm

me

up
