Typewriter Rodeo: Climbable

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Climbable

skin pressed tight against
bark, the
impression of animal
embossed
onto bare limbs,
these limbs heavy
with leaves and trunk,
rings
hiding deep inside,
a nudge towards instinct
hiding deep inside,
a whisper towards the
ghost
of a memory,

let this height breathe
life
back into aging bones,
scramble towards
a smaller self,
closer to
clouds.
