Typewriter Rodeo: Construction

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Some people say Texas doesn’t really have seasons, but that all depends on which part of Texas you call home. Still, one season many Texans share nowadays, despite the weather, is construction season. That’s the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Construction

It’s making my files

Even more of a mess!

That nonstop jackhammer

Shaking my desk!

Across the street

Another condo goes up

While I watch my coffee

Jiggle in my cup

I know that progress

Must always keep improving

But does it also mean

My floor’s always moving?

That non-stop construction

Is like a pounding in my brain

The rumbling of the trucks

The screeeeeching of that crane

Ahhhh, finally

The pace has gone slower

And now – are you kidding me?

Who’s got that leaf blower?
