Typewriter Rodeo: Dark Matter

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Dark Matter

The universe swirls —
A galaxy here, star clusters there
Planets and nebulae
Everywhere!

But what about
The space between?
Maybe that “nothing”
Is not what it seems

The scientists speculate
That it’s actually quite full
(Though there are a few
Who call celestial bull)

Still who can tell
What fills outer space?
It’s hard enough to see
What’s right in front of your face

Maybe this new scope will tell us
The one on a mountain in Chile
Maybe it will see the unseen
Or maybe it’s all just silly

Does dark matter exist?
Why are we here?
All the questions best pondered
Over a beer.
