Typewriter Rodeo: Electric Socks

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

As it gets cooler outside, everyone starts pulling out their “winter” clothes – for the few weeks of the year when layers aren’t just a fashion statement and the wind hits your face a little harder in the morning. Of course, there’s sweaters and jackets and scarfs, but you shouldn’t forget a good pair of socks to stay warm. Today’s poem is dedicated to a special kind of sock, for the end of the day when you curl up with a mug of hot chocolate.

Electric Socks

Smart money’s on not igniting your feet
Though cozy tootsies are a lovely treat

Inventors are working day and night
To find warm socks that are thin and light

Wool works well, but it gets kinda stuffy
To have your feet surrounded in such fluffy

I’d wear socks from toes to neck
If you could craft me some that were high tech

So toss me those electric socks
And a grounding rod to avoid shocks

And if they’re out of juice when I get dressed
ah….

I can charge ’em up while I drive my Tesla.
