Typewriter Rodeo: False fall

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

False fall

The thing about Texas weather
they say
is if you don’t like it
just wait a minute
it’ll change
But I always forget this
come September
the second I see
the forecast say 80’s
I dust off my sweaters
start salivating at the thought
of soups & stews
pumpkin, pecan & cranberries
waltzing through my mind
And the next thing I know I’m sweating
through my corduroys
and once again
it’s a balmy
almost punishing
95.
