Forgiveness
It is not something you see
In a headline
or executive order
But there are much
Higher powers
And while it is often coupled
With forget
We will not:
El Paso
August 3, 2019
23 murdered
22 wounded
in a matter of minutes
An attempt to divide
Neighbor against neighbor
Texan against Texan
Human against human
And now, finally,
The guilty plea entered
The sentence enacted
And the victims’ families
Reaching out
Not to hate
But to hug
“What would be the point,” said one,
of forgiving
what was easy
to forgive?
And there is the proof:
The easy way
Is to give in
But there are much higher powers
And so we may forgive
But we will never forget:
El Paso
August 3, 2019
23 murdered
22 wounded
in a matter of minutes
An attempt to divide
That, in the end, will never
Succeed.
