Typewriter Rodeo: Gas Prices

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Texas gas prices are actually down quite a bit from the record high price (not counting inflation) set last month. AAA Texas reports the statewide average is $3.70 for a gallon of regular unleaded. But the cost of filling up is still challenging for many. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Gas Prices

We’ve all been hit
By this crazy inflation
But one rise in particular
Gives me extra consternation

Just when omicron
Seems to have passed
There’s a brand new spike
In the cost of gas

I mean here we are, FINALLY
Going back to in-person
But the price to GET there
Has started to worsen

It could be from Putin
Invading Ukraine
But whatever the reason
We all feel the pain

Whether driving to work
Or visiting friends
At the pump we only
Spend and spend

If there’s no relief soon
I’ll turn apoplectic!
It might be what drives me
To go electric.
