Typewriter Rodeo: Getting cozy when it’s cold

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Getting cozy when it’s cold

“Oh my! Look, look!”
You’ll never believe what I’m seeing
A whirl of delicate flurries
Landed right here in our front yard
Who knew a Texas winter could put on such a show!

Now is our chance
Quick! Hurry!
Light the candles!
Start the cocoa!
Make a fire, or at least pretend to!
The time has finally come
To put those mittens to use
Let your cheeks get rosy
And your nose get cold
Then return to a home
That offers the comfort of warmth
Against an unexpectedly harsh winter

What a spirited feeling this is!
The flow of a magical season
Its truly a wondrous thing
How just a wink of snow
Brings so much more life to the world inside
The beauty of distinction
The fire to the ice
