Typewriter Rodeo: Getting Out

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

The Texas Standard asks listeners for poetry requests. This one is for Jess.

GETTING OUT

Oh all this traffic

Has me beat

I gotta get off

These city streets

Just a short drive

Across the county line

With no one ahead

And no one behind

Just me and this open

Country road

Where shoulders relax

And time has slowed

Driving here, alone

Any time of day

Is my perfect short trip

To get away…
