Typewriter Rodeo: I Missed The Pink Moon

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

By Sean PetrieApril 30, 2021 10:35 am,

A rare and beautiful phenomenon: not just a full moon but a supermoon – and a “pink” one at that. Everyone was talking about it, except you because, heck, you look at the moon all the time and you forgot this one was supposed to be special. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

I MISSED THE PINK MOON

I was late by a day
A night really
That full super moon
Everyone else saw

I thought I had it
Thought I’d heard the right time
But like so many things
I was just a slight
Bit
Off –

A wrong exit
A snooze I could have
Not hit
A line kept inside
To the stranger that passed

But the moon I did see?
(Topaz? Salmon? Fairydust?)
The moon I did see
Was still stunning
Still way more than half
Full.
