Typewriter Rodeo: I’m An Autumn

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

In some places, fall means colorful leaves, warm jackets or even a coat of frost on pumpkins in the patch. Here, we get to turn of the air conditioning?

I’m An Autumn

sleeves are getting longer

short pants going out

mercury is sliding

like a spider down a spout

break out the checkered flannel

heat the cocoa up

better put a dram or two

of spirits in the cup

build a roaring fire

cuddle up together

that’s the only way that we’ll

get through this kind of weather

although I must admit that I

do find this season nifty

I know I’ll be shivering tonight

it’s s’posed to get down to 50!
