Typewriter Rodeo: Imperfect Song

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Early voting in the Texas midterm elections is coming to an end and voter turnout so far is down. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem. Election Day is Nov. 8.

Imperfect Song

you? yeah, you. theyre saying you

should vote. theyre saying its enough

to show up and let your thoughts be known

theyre saying theyre all ears

and ignighting your hope and fears

but this time it will be different

theyre persistent, youve resisted

and dismissed it, youve got your apprehensions

prove them right or prove them wrong

either way, the day moves on

why would you chose to remove

your verse, your voice

from this imperfect song?
