Mars is often described as a barren, lifeless planet – or it was, until scientists told us there might have been water there. But when it’s summer in Texas, with the sun beating down and fires dotting the landscape, it feels a little lifeless here, too.
Life On Mars
they say they’ve discovered
water on mars
a great frozen reservoir
so I’m asking – where’s ours?
the dust of the red dirt
clogs in my nose
just like it might
up on mars, I suppose
Our camels drying up
wildfires ragin
our once lush green planet
feels like it’s aging
and so maybe someday
astronomers green
will aim telescopes at us
and with no life forms seen
they’ll speculate on
whether life e’er existed
on that dusty third planet
’cause if it did, they missed it.
