Typewriter Rodeo: Madame Vice President. Finally.

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

By Kari Anne HoltJanuary 22, 2021 2:30 pm,

For the first time in U.S. history, a woman occupies the second-highest position in government. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Madame Vice President. Finally.

she wore white
on the night
the election was chosen
by the people
for the people
white for suffrage
white for us

she wore purple
on the day
she swore an oath
to hold and protect us
purple for freedom
purple for peace
(and maybe, just a little, purple for royalty,
our chosen queen
of the people
for the people)

The future shines through her,
hope glows forth
A woman of color
chosen to guide
chosen to lead

Madame Vice President
(Queen VP)

Finally.
Finally.
