Tupperware with leftovers, salads from around the corner, candy from the vending machine – office food can get boring. Some of us try to eat healthy, waking up an extra half hour early to prepare a midday meal, others go for the multi-snack approach. And every now and then, a magical thing happens in the breakroom: someone brings donuts.
Ode to the Break Room Donut
This but a quick moment away from the grind
Stepping out of the cubicle
Stepping in to the community space
Tis but a pause in the to-do trajectory
A glass of water
hydration, so key
What finely hewn box awaits?
What slip of wax paper flutters out?
Wherefore dost this unexpected gift exist?
And tempered expectation, we peer in
Lo, the majestic inner-less orb
Toroidal space all glaze and cake
Still slightly warm from the fry
Some staid, coffee dunkable
Some sparkly, rainbow sprinkled
And all, all
bringing a burst of joy
To this rain-drenched
(Thank you, breakroom donut fairy
