Typewriter Rodeo: Pandemic Pets

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Editor’s Note: This Typewriter Rodeo poem inspired so much reaction from Texas Standard staff that we put together a slideshow of self-submitted spoiled pandemic pets. That’s below!

Many of our furry friends have gotten rather used to lifestyles that involve more time at hope and, often, more time with them. Now that schools, business, and social venues are further opening, they’re making adjustments too.

Pandemic Pets

Wait I don’t understand —
Why do you get in car?
The ball — the ball is right here
It is not that far

Don’t you remember —
We throw ball for HOURS!
Then it is couch time
And sometimes you shower?

Then — together time again!
Snuggled side by side
If you are tired of ball
We can go back inside?

Ok now car is moving
I am very perplexed
For the past year longtimes
Each day was like the rest

But now you are LEAVING
This is not super great
Do you miss me already?

It’s okay, I will wait.
